This was to be my first car back in 1980 when I was 16 years old. My oldest brother found the car in north Topeka and purchased it for $1,500. The engine had thrown three bearings, so it my next oldest brother bought the car and I bought the 1968 coupe. The engine was rebuilt and threw bearings yet another time before I got the car back in 2003 by trading a 1973 Q code convertible for it. Restoration has taken some time, but in 2013 and 2014 the effort has begun in earnest and it should be ready for the 2015 show season if everything goes right. Follow along with the restoration…

After the car was disassembled, it was media blasted….

After media blasting
Then painted with a self etching primer.

In 2014, the car was taken to R&A Motorsports for metal replacement, body work and paint.

The car is pretty rare. It is a 1970 Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet with a “drag pack”. The Marti Report shows it was one of 857 with the drag pack option in 1970.
